Review of Lucila Fliess’ work
by Rosa Faccaro

_

In the generation of the eighties, the plastic elements which structure figuration, fix their accent on the so-called painting-painting alongside with the inherent materials that arise with the new technologies. Lucila Fliess is part of this generation.

Her career path recall of a genealogy, with an artistic parentage that serves as foundation of wisdom. Added to this, a solid knowledge of plastic arts as far as experimentation is concerned, goes not only with the figurative image and its construction, but all the materials employed to convey her expressive purposes as well.

The imaginary account has equal leading figures. The representation is based on human figure in parallel to canines. In ancient times, peculiar native specimens were found in America and kept mummified in this company. Nonetheless, it is mandatory to be understood that creation transcends canine references in each time and culture. Plastic art, as a linguistic element of reference, refers the relationship between these two characters and narrate the symbiosis that lingers until this day.

Lucila Fliess’ imaginary account has certain magnetism. It refrains from skimming on the expression that characterizes the animal and keeps with the human companion an anonymous discretion. Quote with this the example of the sculpture: "Awakening of Conscience" (Despertar de la conciencia) in which it can be observed that the artist knows the canine soul to the bone. The replica in cast gives to it a singular hierarchy that makes this piece unique, for it is the artist herself.

In the sculptures, the technical skill in the use of copper rolls in scale shapes can be witnessed in the constructive conception of the animal that relies on the head and torso of the artist. It is a work conceived with plenty of freedom, assertiveness and peerless expressive results.

n the work "Ride" (Paseo) is worth noting due to the harmony in the conjunction between the walker and the walked by. It is evidenced an equilibrium which transcends the relation established by them. Through this image, it is envisioned the pleasure relying in the mutual company.

A metamorphosis linked to surrealism is also present. The artist melts and internalizes the human figure with canine, blending it, pictorially, with a common identity.

This characteristic can be seen in "Animal" (Animal).

It is worth seeing not only her aesthetic intention in the plastic resolution inferring her artistic craft, but also it should be appreciated an imagination free of prejudice towards a significant world.
